Live long and healthily chart
As this chart suggests a healthy balanced diet to delay the signs of ageing is one that contains a variety of foods including plenty of fruit and vegetables, plenty of starchy foods such as wholegrain bread, pasta, potatoes and rice, some protein-rich foods such as lean meat, fish, eggs and lentils and some reduced fat dairy foods.
For most of us (the exception being those who are underweight with small appetites), it should also be low in fat (especially saturated fat), salt and sugar. The eatwell plate is a simple way to help you get this balance right.
