Food availability and our changing diet
In September 2007 BNF published a new Briefing Paper to coincide with its 40th anniversary.
The paper begins by looking at the changes to disease patterns and health since the 1940s. It summarises the modifications to dietary advice and nutrition related government policy, and provides a useful review of how our diet has changed since the 1940s. In order to put these changes in context, the paper considers some of the major influences on food availability in the UK since the 1940s – namely government policies, consumer-led changes and innovations by the food industry.
