Community Award

The British Nutrition Foundation community award recognises an individual (e.g. a health professional, teacher or volunteer) or a group that has undertaken a community initiative to support healthier eating in an underserved group(s) in the UK.

 

The Award has been made possible through the British Nutrition Foundation’s management of the Drummond Memorial Fund, established in memory of the work and contribution of Sir Jack Drummond (for more information, see here). Information regarding previous winners can be seen below.

 

Eligibility criteria
• The activity must either be ongoing or if now concluded, must have been in place in 2024.
• Initiatives led by universities are not eligible for this award.
• Organisations with a turnover of greater than £1 million per annum are not eligible for this award.

 

The Award
The prize for the winner(s) will be a £500 honorarium award to their organisation and a certificate, to be presented at the British Nutrition Foundation’s Annual Conference in central London in November 2025 (attendance is optional).

 

How to apply
Individuals/groups must be nominated (self-nominations and nominations from within the nominated organisation will not be accepted) in order to be considered for this award; however the nominee(s) is/are required to complete one section of the application form and to submit the application.


All sections of the application form must be completed.

Selection process
Applications will be shortlisted internally by the British Nutrition Foundation and judged externally by members of the Scientific Committee.

 


Key dates
The closing date for applications is midnight on 8 June 2025.
Applicants will be notified by end of August 2025.
The award will be presented at an awards ceremony at British Nutrition Foundation Annual Conference in November 2025 in central London (attendance is optional).

 

The 2024 Community Award

Winner – Food Cycle

 

This year’s winner is Food Cycle. Food Cycle work to reach vulnerable groups with fresh, nutritious communal meals across the nation, aiming to simultaneously tackle isolation and food waste and equip a small army of volunteers to mobilise communities and empower guests, team members and food networks to actively improve local food security.

 

Runner-up – FEAST with us

 

This year's runner-up is FEAST with us. Their Healthy Eating on a Budget programme aims to empower people experiencing food insecurity to independently access their nutritional needs, make informed dietary choices and improve dietary behaviour on a budget by supporting them to build their knowledge, skills and confidence pertaining to nutrition and food preparation.
